Kristina Janulevičienė, a representative from the Alytus County Police, informed BNS that the pre-trial investigation into the baby’s murder began on Monday and that the baby’s father, suspected of a crime, was arrested that day.
According to K. Janulevičienė, the man, born in 1995, was detained on Wednesday for a period of three months.
The baby’s mother, born in 2000, is currently being treated at the hospital.
According to the police representative, the Service for the Protection of Children’s Rights informed the police about the incident.
Service spokeswoman Vija Kudziene told FM99 radio on Wednesday that children’s rights specialists had been informed of the incident by witnesses who said they noticed the girl’s pregnancy, but after a while, her symptoms disappeared and the baby was not visible.
The young couple also raised a one-year-three-month-old boy, whose custody is currently handed over to his father’s mother.
The pre-trial investigation is controlled by the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
