G. Beržinskas said that he became interested in Nazism when he was a child: 12 years old. At first, he considered himself a patriot and only later did the guy’s views become more radical.
“From the age of 14 I was interested in explosives. I was exploding with a friend in the forest near Jurbarkas,” G. Beržinskas said in court.
According to the guy, his friend only cared about explosives, not Nazism. The defendant, who never hid his views, also did not find like-minded people among his classmates.
It is true that he constantly communicated about Nazi ideas on Internet forums with foreigners. There he joined the far-right group Feuerkrieg Division.
G. Beržinskas, who planned the terrorist act, said he hoped to make this global neo-Nazi group, led by a 13-year-old Estonian, famous.
The military academy didn’t fit
After graduating from school, the boy went to study at the General Jonas Zemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy.
“I always wanted to serve in the Lithuanian army, I connected my life with the war,” said G. Beržinskas. – I passed all the tests and went to study in Vilnius. At the Military Academy, he hoped to find like-minded people who would support Nazi and Fascist ideas. However, he disagreed with the students and the science was poor. “

Regardless of the student’s opinions, the Second Department of Operational Services granted him permission to work with classified information, but he did not use that permission. After completing her first year, G. Beržinskas dropped out of school.
“After graduating, I went back to Jurbarkas, where I lived, I did a little work. At that time, ideas began to emerge that led to this crime. It is exploiting, proving one’s truth, venting anger, “he said.
The guy got a job in Lithuania’s Grand Duke Kęstutis Motorized Infantry Battalion, where he acquired the right to drive armored vehicles. However, it didn’t fit there either.
Studies in the capital: an opportunity to exploit
Finally, he received an offer from a friend to study software systems in the capital. G. Beržinskas thought that this would be a great opportunity to go to Vilnius and organize a terrorist act there.
“I was constantly overwhelmed by the idea that something had to be done, that it wasn’t life, that maybe something had to be blown up to prove my truth. I was angry with myself for having such a life, the defendant claimed. – Studying in Vilnius is a good opportunity to blow up a building or an institution. I thought it was my chance. “
When he went to study his luggage, he also threw the materials used to make the explosive. The guy who stayed in the bedroom just put everything in the closet, but the roommates didn’t understand what it was.

Walking through Vilnius, he chose his target: an office building on Balčikonio Street. He wanted to cause as much damage as possible to various financial institutions, and this is where Swedbank and Western Union meet.
The explosion did not happen by chance
On October 6, shortly before midnight, he brought a high-powered explosive and placed it near the building. He also painted a swastika and other fascist symbols on the wall.
While producing an explosive, G. Beržinskas considered whether to use a lighter or a clock mechanism. Having decided that the last option was more reliable, he did so.
This choice turned out to be fateful. The contacts on the duct tape moved, so the explosive didn’t work.
“I waited in the bedroom for about an hour, but the explosion didn’t happen. I thought, maybe go see what happened, but I didn’t dare,” he said.
Already captured, G. Beržinskas was extremely saddened that he had been arrested, that is, for having made mistakes.
“I wanted to intimidate people, encourage others to do the same, so that people would come together for a common goal, so that there are more people who want to blow something up,” he said.
He explained to officials that, if released, he would continue to make bombs and commit terrorist acts. Today in court, the guy regretted his words.
It is true that the specific type of his ideas he did not mention, he only called on his far-right views.
