“On Wednesday the first pond of Buivydiškės (Vilnius city) broke through. The water fell by the meter, ”Karolis Kučiauskas told the lrytas.lt news portal.

According to K. Kučiauskas, at first he also tried to help manage the passage of the pond: he found additional boards with which he tried to stop the flow. Still, they did little to help.
“The current is strong, the hole is large, the passage needs serious handling. The problem here is that within a few years, the wooden partition of the passage just broke. All it took was the last rain: the water level rose, the pressure in the pond increased, and the passage ruptured. During the day yesterday, the water dropped about 1 m. Tonight – another about 0.2 m.
I guess the natural replenishment of other ponds may not be enough and the water level will keep dropping. Ponds II and III will be more solid, with valves, and I, only with a wooden partition, which rotted over time ”, says the neighbor.
K. Kučiauskas says he also applied for Grinda, but “Grinda said it wasn’t her garden here.” Environmentalists were also contacted and the report recorded.

Representatives of the Department of Environmental Protection confirmed that they had been informed about the situation by the General Assistance Center, which had been requested by the residents of Buivydiškės.

“Officials from Vilnius SAI and Vilnius GGAI were at the scene. The boards were found to rot in the passage of Buivydiškės Pond I and possibly one of them broke, causing the water level in the pond to drop. There are currently no signs of damage to natural resources and no downed fish have been detected.
We will inform the Vilnius city municipal administration and the Ministry of Transport and Communications about the damaged hydrotechnical facility in order to take action within the competition to repair the sewer and stop the drop in the water level of the pond. “
