“In mid-December, with the tightening of quarantine and restrictions on movement between the country’s municipalities, passenger traffic was reduced by 80 percent. As in the first wave, we maintained long-distance connections so that people could travel to work, medical facilities and other necessary cases. Of course, we had to react to changes in passenger flow, so we stopped part of the trips, but at the same time, we kept our promise, ensuring the possibility to get from point A to point B by train ”, says Linas Baužys., the director of LTG Link.
According to L. Baužis, during the quarantine the company monitored changes in passenger flows and, depending on them, returned several flights between Vilnius and Klaipėda, Vilnius and Kaunas, Vilnius and Marcinkoniai, Kaunas and Kybartai. Currently, passenger traffic is about 51 percent. lower than in the same period last year – a moderate return of travelers is observed, which is projected to increase even more: on Monday, the government liberalized the movement among 44 municipalities, in 16 the movement is restricted to March 31, except for necessary trips. Therefore, it was decided to return more train trips, ensuring safe distances between passengers. This will be especially relevant when there are no movement restrictions between the aforementioned 16 municipalities, which currently include cities as large as Kaunas, Klaipėda, Panevėžys.
“Enhanced security measures are maintained on trains and at stations: distance between passengers is maintained, protective masks are worn, and hand sanitizer dispensers are installed at each train door. We are looking for new tools and trains to disinfection; we recently tested ozonation equipment, which disinfects all wagon surfaces in 20 minutes, from table tops to ceilings. The priority is clear, so that both our customers and our employees can get there safely to your destination ”, L. Baužys reviews the current reality of travel.
The company recalls that passengers are informed of all changes on the website www.raukiniobilietas.lt, on the LTG Link Facebook account and by calling the information center at +370 700 55111.
