“There are two candidates: the mayor of Jonava, M. Sinkevičius, who is supported by the supporters of Juozas Olekas, and R. Budbergytė, who is supported by the supporters of Vilija Blinkevičiūtė, but there are other possible candidates.

Judging by the vote on the evaluation of the election results, the supporters of J. Olek dominate, so any other candidate of the supporters of J. Olek would also win, “said Aloyzas Sakalas, honorary chairman of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party.

When asked which candidate he supports, the honorary party chairman responded diplomatically and with reference to the upcoming election of a party chairman who is no longer acting.

“I know well the activities of J. Olek and I know little about the activities of V. Blinkevičiūtė, not in Brussels, but in Lithuania. But, according to Spinter’s polls, she is a highly regarded person, so she would be a serious candidate. for party presidents if he decides to run, ”Sakalas said.

Falcon: party members recover from shock

Asked about the emotional state of party members, the honorary president assessed that LSDP members were already recovering from the shock they had experienced during the Seimas elections.

“They understand that the LSDP must defend small businessmen, the Lithuanian people who do not make ends meet, their education and science, medical care and equivalency,” said A. Sakalas.

According to the honorary party chairman, the short-term goal would be “to develop a party program without words: let’s get up, let’s get better.”

Paluckas offered Blinkevičiūtė as temporary manager

As BNS has written, following the resignation of G. Paluck, one of the vice-presidents will be temporarily appointed to lead the party.

The Social Democrats will approve the interim president after Paluck announced his resignation as party chairman last Friday following criticism of the party. He appointed Vilija Blinkevičiūtė MEP as interim leader.

The Statute of the LSDP establishes that upon the resignation of the party president, the first deputy will occupy the position, but he was not appointed.

Members of the LSDP will soon elect a new president, and the first round of elections is scheduled for April 22-25. The party president is elected for a period of 2 years.
