In each series of the reality show “Naked and intimidated”, a woman and a man are left naked in an uninhabited area where they have to survive in freedom for 21 days.
The participants of the show must seek shelter, find water and food, and on the last day they must meet in an agreed place to be transported back to civilization. All they have to do is have a map of the area and an item that they can take with them: a match, a knife, or some other useful tool. Already at this stage, the ingenuity of the participants is tested; For some, the critical tool for survival turned out to be … sunglasses.
Three basic skills necessary to survive in the wild: light a fire, find drinking water, build a shelter. These skills were tested during the selection of participants.
Another equally important thing is ingenuity and creativity. The participants of the show are faced with many situations for which they have to find solutions, such as making improvised shoes, boiling water without any utensils, etc.
In addition, the heroes are completely unknown, so that, in addition to physical difficulties, there are also psychological ones: far from all couples finding common ground and being able to agree. However, there were also those who were united by the tests and became the beginning of a romantic relationship.
Authentic experience
Still, the show’s creators disprove the myth that nudity was supposed to have inspired many romantic relationships. According to them, the program participants were so busy experiencing and satisfying basic things – food, water, heat – that nudity took a back seat.
They argue that the participants are naked not to surprise viewers, but to get as close to natural conditions as possible and make the survival experience truly authentic. Furthermore, the contrast between civilization and wildlife becomes even more pronounced, with viewers watching the show in the comfort of a warm home and the poor and starving participants of the survival drama lurking under a miserable view.
