“No decision has been made, practically not even the president has offered to rush it, he said it is too early to talk about it. There was practically no discussion about it, ”Julius Sabatauskas, vice president of Seimas, told BNS after the remote meeting of the LSDP Presidium on Wednesday night.
LSDP’s Communications Division said the party would not sign any opposition cooperation agreements. According to the president of this party, Gintautas Paluckas, signing such an agreement would be neither relevant nor opportune for the moment.
“The Social Democrats have their own agenda and will do everything possible to implement it. And the agreements written between the opposition factions at this stage, especially when the Labor Party “abandoned” the opposition and chose to cooperate with the Conservatives, are not timely because there is no common political agenda, “commented G. Paluckas on the decision of the LSDP presidium.
According to J. Sabatauskas, the issue of the opposition agreement was not on the agenda of the presidium meeting.
“The president said that the situation was such that it was not worth discussing it now,” said J. Sabatauskas.
The LSDP leader pointed out that the task in the near future is to analyze and evaluate the future government’s program.
The Social Democrats have 13 representatives in parliament.
In the new Seimas, the factions of the Lithuanian Green and Peasant Union, the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party and the Labor Party have declared themselves in opposition.
The “Peasants” have offered the Social Democrats and the “workers” to sign a cooperation agreement and rotate each new session of the Seimas to elect a new opposition leader.
According to the Statute of the Seimas, the position of leader of the opposition belongs to the opposition faction or its coalition, which has more than half of the parliamentarians belonging to the minority of the Seimas.
