“The idea was born out of necessity: I wanted to give something sensitive and majestic to the people of Lithuania. “Lithuania is expensive”, by the composer Juozas Naujalis, written in the words of Maironis, not in vain is it called the unofficial national anthem: it needs many voices. This profound work by a small ensemble, known to all Lithuanians from an early age, would not reveal all its sacred greatness. And singers should not be invited into the room … So there is nothing left but to bring together the ‘nation’ of our theater with the help of technology “, says G. Šeduikis, author and director of the idea of a video unusual musical.
In the “Virtual Choir” – theater opera soloists Joana Gedmintaitė, Laima Jonutytė, Viktorija Miškūnaitė, Regina Šilinskaitė, Egidijus Dauskurdis, Rafailas Karpis, Liudas Mikalauskas, Liudas Norvaiša, Tomas Pavilionis, Steponas Zonysa and others.
The “virtual director” helped the singers to achieve musical unity: LNOBT main director Ričardas Šumila filmed their hands in front of the camera at his home, then each group of artists sang a cappella “Lietuva darling” watching the same director’s video.
Finally, with the help of computer programs, all available recordings had to be “placed” synchronously in the common space of the room: this delicate work was carried out by Martynas Aleksa, according to the LNOBT report.
Congratulating their viewers on March 11, the day of the restoration of the independence of Lithuania, with this video, the opera soloists want to remember that the motherland remains expensive regardless of the conditions and rules dictated by the pandemic.
