“For 19 years, we, like Seimas, have had our only representative in the European Union, that is, in Brussels. But I think that, from the beginning and before, we knew perfectly well that there are national parliaments whose influence, in fact, on the fate of Lithuania and the interests of Lithuania is sometimes even greater than that of the European Parliament. In this case, I mean the United States Congress, ”said Žygimantas Pavilionis, chairman of the Seimas Foreign Affairs Committee (URK), introducing the draft.
According to him, Congress is the most important institution in the United States and the decisions made there often affect the fate of Lithuania.
“To my knowledge, China has about 700 people working with Congress, the British – 100, Poland – ten. We have about half a person, a diplomat who covers many other issues,” said the head of the committee.
According to him, the adoption of the new wording of the law would open the possibility of appointing a permanent representative of the Seimas in Congress.
