Algirdas Butkevičius, the MP who initiated the amendment, says the amendment was prompted by complaints from residents.
“Because of this tax, some heirs simply refuse to inherit the cars that need to be re-registered and pay the pollution tax,” A. Butkevičius told Seimas.
The Social Democrat Algirdas Sys added that the heir to several cars would also be exempt from the tax.
According to Mykolas Majauskas, chairman of the Budget and Finance Commission, the so-called pollution tax should be renamed the registration tax and the car should be taxed only once, and not every time the owner changes.
