According to the first vice president of the Seimas Rima Baškienė, the members of the board of the Seimas do not oppose the facts, but the priority is safety.
“We consider a series of requests to hold one or another important event at the Seimas. We are prepared to treat each case on a case-by-case basis and evaluate it accordingly, but everyone has the same opinion that we should assess the need for security. Therefore, we offer take the opportunity to organize events remotely. We must be responsible for avoiding the virus problem, “R. Baškienė told Eltai.
According to her, it is often planned to organize events in the Seimas building on weekends, which requires additional resources from the Seimas Chancellery, because, for example, it is necessary to disinfect all the corridors afterwards.
Yesterday, the Seimas Board did not approve the request of the Social Democrats to hold an international conference of German-Baltic youth at the Seimas, which will be attended by about 300 people.
“We should look for other ways to organize these types of events: remotely, postpone them, invite fewer participants. The first thing is safety, responsibility, we must protect each other. Therefore, the Board of Directors of the Seimas invites us to act with much responsibility ”, R. Baškienė emphasized again.
According to the spokesman of the Seimas
V.Pranckietis, many important international events take place remotely.
“And in this case, the speakers could talk remotely. Those problems should be solved after assessing the security,” said the president of Seimas.
The Seimas Board agreed that the 30th anniversary celebration of Klaipėda University would be held at the Seimas Constitution Hall in October, but intends to decide later on the request of the Lithuanian Public Council to organize an event in the Seimas.
Yesterday, journalists from Vakaro žinios visited the Seimas building. During the hour we spent in the palace, only four parliamentarians had to be seen: Juozas Imbrasas participated in a press conference, and in the hall we had to pass with Arūnas Gumuliauskas, Robertas Šarknickas and Žygimantas Pavilionis. Even the clergy of the Seimas were practically absent, and those who could be seen, by the way, did not have protective masks. It is true that Ingrida Šimonytė and Viktorija Čmilyte-Nielsen were still in the center of Vilnius.
Regrettably, honorable parliamentarians will have to take a break today as the last part-session of this mandate begins.
