Last Friday afternoon, two amendments to the bill aimed at legalizing the state income of former Seimas members were registered with the Seimas Chancellery, writes the delfi.lt portal.
According to the portal, in 2007 the two procedural stages – presentation and consideration – of the amendments to the draft law are intended to equate former and recently elected parliamentarians with the signatories of the Act of Independence, granting them the same privileges. The state rent would also be paid to all former prime ministers.
The initiators of the proposals are the vice president of the Seimas, Jonas Liesys, representative of the Liberal Movement, and Artūras Skardžius and Andrius Mazuronis, representatives of the Labor Party in the Seimas.
The proposal by J. Liesis proposes to keep the date of entry into force of the law on November 12 of this year, A. Skardžius and A. Mazuronis – January 1 of the following year.
BNS recalls that in 2007 a similar initiative was considered, but following a wave of criticism, the members of the Seimas did not legalize the rents.
President Gitanas Nausėda has said that he would veto this attempt by the members of the Seimas.
