Seimas reduced the financial resources of the municipality and consumers by replacing overhead power lines with cables, thus creating the conditions for the expansion of the distribution network.

MEPs approved three amendments to the electricity, energy and renewable energy laws prepared by President Gitan Nausda on Tuesday.

According to Conservative MP Paul Suadargas, although not essentially, the law improves the situation for both productive consumers and residents, as well as builders relocating old lines.

Consumers who want to rebuild or relocate power lines operated by ESO for 20 years or earlier use quantities of 100-50%, making construction difficult, for example.

The possibility of urgent relocation of lines is also justified by the user who wants to carry out the work on his own. However, the connection with the producer consumer will increase (from 20% to 40-50%).

50% (instead of 40%) of the connection to electrical distribution will be covered by new consumers and generators, which currently cover all costs. The exemption will apply to disadvantaged consumers who continue to pay only 20% of the connection price.

If the builder’s access networks are to be built in the infrastructure development area, they must cover 100% of the preparation costs.

These amendments are proposed to the president of the Seimas, because now only a small part of the power lines are underground, most of the cables are laid in cities and the need for poetry cables increases during construction and improvement around them. They, according to the president, allow uninterrupted power supply, for example, in adverse weather conditions.

In March of this year, after a hurricane, nearly 250,000 consumers cut off Laura’s electricity supply.
