Social Democrat Julius Sabatauskas was surprised that not a third of the population participated in the survey on the connection of the people with the city.

After the city of Kaunas expressed its desire to join a part of the district territory, it tightened the conditions to change the boundaries of the municipal territories.
The Minister of the Interior, Rita Tamašunienė, who presented the project in Slengi, pointed out that in June 2018, the residents of this village presented a proposal to the Government to assign their territory to the Municipality of the city of Klaipėda. Other requirements were then applied for this procedure.
“According to the previous provisions of the law, it has not been said how many people have to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Only a population survey was carried out,” said the minister.
According to their data, 26.8% of the respondents participated in the survey on the connection of Slengiai to Klaipeda. population, that is, 226, 843 people had the right to vote. Behind it was 131.
According to the minister, municipality of Klaipeda district, communities in neighboring villages did not support Slengiai’s wish to become part of the city.
“There is a multifunctional center in Slengiai, where preschool, pre-school and primary education children are educated, and not only in Slengiai, but also in the surrounding villages, that is, children of the residents of the Klaipeda district. After the town of Slengiai began to belong to the Klaipėda city elder, all preschool and preschool education would become an independent function of the Klaipėda city, and the residents of the Klaipėda district would not have the right of priority ” said R. Tamašunienė.
