On Monday morning, V.Čmilytė-Nielsen said that several decisions were made during the Seimas Meeting to ensure safer working conditions in Parliament.

Taking into account the epidemiological situation, there will be a pause in the work of the Seimas for a week: the parliamentarians will not meet in plenary sessions.

We also discussed other measures that would help ensure a safer working of the Seimas. These are both the restriction of meetings in the Seimas and certain changes in the Seimas itself, the refusal to use the leisure areas, at least temporarily, and other things, other details that we had tentatively discussed last Friday, and now we have taken those decisions. indicated V.Čmilytė-Nielsen.

According to the president of the Seimas, the meetings of the parliamentary committees and commissions and the meetings of elders will be held remotely. Except for those meetings that are closed and cannot be remotely due to security requirements.

“Another thing is the changes in the permits to enter the Seimas. They are not ordered to anyone, except the media, and in cases where the visit of one or another person to the Seimas is necessary to guarantee the proper functioning of the Seimas. Still, it is up to the members of the Seimas to decide, but it is strongly requested that as few people as possible visit the Seimas ”, commented V.Čmilytė-Nielsen.

The rest and smoking areas will be closed in the Seimas building. Parliamentarians are advised not to meet, not to do what is necessary to remove the mask.

Body temperature will be measured at the entrances to the Seimas.

“We have also extended the recommendation to those members of the Seimas who could run for the Ethics Commission for belonging to a risk group, if necessary, and that this would be considered a justifiable reason for not attending the Seimas session,” he said the President of Parliament.

According to V.Čmilytė-Nielsen, members of the Seimas are recommended to test for COVID-19.

“It just came to our attention then. It is really important to ensure that the Seimas members who attend Seimas sessions have a negative test,” he emphasized.

V.Čmilytė-Nielsen was unable to specify the exact number of Seimas members in self-isolation. But it may happen on Tuesday that those in power do not have a majority.

“In theory, that could happen,” he said.
