126 parliamentarians voted in favor of the removal of E. Pašilis, there were no voters, four members of the Seimas abstained.
Pashilis’ five-year term ends on December 29.
The Chief Adviser to President Jūratė Šovienė presented the Seimas draft resolution to parliamentarians regarding his removal from office.
Responding to questions from MPs, he said that the position of the Attorney General is very responsible.
“And we are, of course, grateful to the esteemed E. Pašilis for the trip,” he said.

When evaluating the mandate of E.Pašilis, the parliamentarian Eugenijus Gentvilas stated that there were no reforms in the prosecutor’s office, there was dissatisfaction of the prosecutors with the management and the authority of the prosecution in the company did not grow.
“It just came to our knowledge then. Still, there was no apparent appeasement for the political forces, as my colleague Vytautas Bakas said. There has been such a routine work and I would like the Attorney General’s Office to function as a leading institution, source of ideas. Unfortunately, that was not the case. And here is a lesson for probably everyone who nominates attorneys general. This is not the first Attorney General not to receive support for the later course of his career, “said E. Gentvilas during the Seimas session.

He wanted the presidency to find a candidate for Attorney General who deserves authority, trust for two terms, so that the head of the Attorney General does not have to change each term.

G. Nausėda has previously said that he is looking for a candidate for Attorney General.
“Consultations and meetings with candidates are currently taking place. Today I also physically meet a candidate, because I was really interested in the candidacy, and we would like to talk more and further evaluate their suitability,” he explained in mid-November.
The Attorney General is appointed by the President for five years with the approval of the Seimas.

The government appointed E. Pašilis to the judges of the General Court of the European Union (EU).
Acting Justice Minister Elvinas Jankevičius told the BNS news agency that the government had approved the candidacy of E. Pašilis by a unanimous meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in early November, and the Attorney General also participated.
The problem was considered of limited use.

However, in mid-November, G. Nausėda declared that he did not support the candidacy of E. Pašilis to the judges of the General Court of the EU and that he would not present it.
According to the president, E. Pasilis is not suitable for the aforementioned position and was selected as non-transparent.
