Grandparents’ Day in Memory is dedicated to honoring grandparents and fostering family traditions. The amendment to the Law on Commemorative Days was prepared by Rimantė Šalaševičiūt a, a social worker, Irena Degutienė, a conservative, and Aušrinė Norkienė, a peasant, who is a member of Seimas, chair of the Committee on Social Affairs and Labor.
Until then, the Memorial Days Act did not provide for days to honor grandparents.
Seimas member Vytautas Juozapaitis stated that he was not against the grandparents in the courtroom, but suggested not voting for another memorable day. He asked if the law would not be passed or if no one would know the need to love grandparents. He argued that this law is redundant.
“It will be such a useless law that it will not work at all,” said V. Juozapaitis in Seimas.
Deputy Rimantas Jonas Dagys spoke in favor of Grandparents Day. According to him, if there is no such respect, then we can be ironic. According to him, Memorial Days are designed to preserve traditions.
“Today I see one of the greatest meanings {…} I think support and kinship will be formed,” said R. J. Dagys.
MP Bronius Bradauskas also supported the day dedicated to grandparents.
“Who is a grandfather is the guardian of their children and grandchildren. As long as you do not become a grandfather, while you are healthy, take care of it and take care of it. {…} In my opinion, the grandfather is much more significant than the father or mother” , said B. Bradauskas in the Seimas.
Kęstutis Masiulis stated that this philosophy of grandparents in the Seimas is ridiculous: “Nothing prevents communities from celebrating Grandparents’ Day whenever they wish.” We don’t have to say what to store here. “
