Lithuania is rocked by lightning robberies and arrogant thieves. On Thursday night, they raided the Varlė.lt online shopping center in Kaunas, 290 Savanorių Avenue.
It has not been determined exactly how many things were stolen, but the thieves purposely targeted smart devices – computers, mobile phones, and smart watches. The thieves are believed to have taken other items as well. According to preliminary calculations, the damages may exceed 10,000 euros. The exact loss will be clarified after inventory.
The robbery took place on the night from Wednesday to Thursday: 3 hours and 5 minutes. The thieves quickly turned around – smashing the glass door, breaking in, and collecting all the gear in about a minute.
Darius Tamošaitis, the manager of the Varlė store in Kaunas, claims that the robbery was possibly planned in advance. As soon as the thieves entered, they immediately went to the most expensive computers, and then smashed the stands with other smart devices – mobile phones, smart watches. The thieves were not deterred by the abundance of video cameras operating at the store.
Police who arrived shortly after the incident no longer found the thieves. Authorities note that perhaps most robberies occur at night between 3 and 4 pm, as this is the most convenient time to escape: the streets are empty.
The physical point of the “Varlė.lt” shopping center has been visited for the second time in the last three months. For the first time, thieves broke into the ShowRoom store at 241 Ukmergės Street in Vilnius: stolen smart devices worth 1,500 to 2,000 euros and a total loss of around 30,000 euros.
Marius Butauskas, founder of the online shopping center Varlė.lt, affirms that in the entire history of its activity – more than 10 years – its stores have never been “cleaned” twice in three months. Whispering about the event, M. Butauskas says: “Maybe not everyone has the money to get Valentine’s gifts, they choose it online and go to the store. Now that all people have to wear masks, the time of the pandemic is very convenient for thieves – they are difficult to identify. “
