Cichanouskaya seeks to increase international pressure on the Minsk regime without ending the protests in the streets of the Belarusian capital.

Cichanouskaya became involved in the political struggle after the government imprisoned her husband, the popular blogger Siarhei Cichanouski, and banned him from running in the presidential elections.

Opposition presidential candidate Cichanouskaya would not want to take office. He said so in an interview with the German publication Die Zeit, published on Wednesday.

“I don’t want to be president. I have no experience, I have no courage. I have to take care of my two young children,” he said.

Cichanouskaya also stressed that she was not seeking power. “If the government wants to ‘be responsible’, then I don’t want to, it’s terrible for me. Every day you are afraid of making mistakes that will have painful consequences for the country and the people,” said the politician.

“The government is a burden, I don’t wish it on anyone. Perhaps for some the government means freedom, for me not. I want to be with my husband and my children, ”she added.
