Vilnius City District Court Judge Evelina Petraitienė announced on Tuesday that Patrol Chief Petras Kirielius, who has now been removed from the police, has been found guilty of failing to perform his duties. It is true that when the case was brought to court, he was accused not only of abusing his official position but also of illegally publishing information about his private life.
For failure to perform his duties, the court imposed a fine of MGL 75 (3,750 euros) on the convicted former official, who ordered that he be paid in a year and a half.
In addition, the court sentenced Mr. Kirielius to 3,000 for the girl, whose video was made public, as a victim. for moral damage.
As the criminal process took place in non-public hearings and the file, in order not to harm the life of the female victim, was declared non-public, the court does not comment on such own conviction.
It is true that Mr. Kirielius, who did not admit the charges against him, will still be able to appeal the court’s verdict.
Kirielius, who has been patrolling with the police for more than twelve years, was fired from the police in February last year when an official inspection was carried out at the Vilnius County Police to explain how a video of a naked woman in the interior courtyard of a police building appeared on the Internet.
This story has been widely reported in the media and the video has spread rapidly on the Internet.
On January 19 of last year, at approximately 2 pm, in Vilnius, Saltoniškių and T. Narbuto str. At the intersection, an apparently intoxicated woman (born 1983), while driving a BMW, collided with a car that had stopped at the intersection.
The culprit of the accident refused to carry out the test with a breathalyzer, which is equivalent to driving when intoxication exceeds two and a half kilometers. The driver was arrested and taken to the police.
The opening of the official car compartment here, where detainees are transported, revealed that the woman was completely naked on the road. Refusing to dress, she got out of the car naked and threw a CD on the ground containing the songs of Egidijus Dragūnas-Selas, one of the most popular Lithuanian artists. The woman then took the plate and cursed, but made it clear to the officer that she was not saying it to him, but to Sel.
On the night of the same day, a video of the naked driver began to be broadcast on the Internet application Discord and other platforms, and the police took the woman to hospital because she turned out to be sober but had mental disorders.
During the official investigation, the Vilnius policemen established that P. Kirielius, while performing his official duties while on duty, had not complied with the rules for processing video data recorded by video surveillance devices in police institutions. These acts of the officer were evaluated as a humiliation of the name of the police officer and a breach of the oath of office of the police officer, for which he was fired for degrading the name of the officer.
