The Houston Rockets went to the Portland Trail Blazers with just nine basketball players.

Houston Rockets / Schedule

The minimum number of basketball players for a game is eight. The Rockets didn’t collect that number for their first game against the Oklahoma Thunder, so they were postponed.

The Rockets will play without six athletes in a game with the Blazers due to the COVID-19 virus. Players cannot participate in the match after receiving a positive COVID-19 test or having contact with a person infected with the virus.

Positive tests were found for Ben McLemore and Kenyon Martin. DeMarcus Cousins, John Wall, Eric Gordon, and Mason Jones have all had contact with a person with the virus and therefore must be quarantined.

James Harden will be able to play in the duel with the Blazers. He was not allowed to play in Game 1 and therefore the Rockets did not muster the required minimum number of basketball players.

Harden couldn’t appear on the court because he broke NBA protocol: He attended a meeting of 15 or more people.

For such misconduct, the NBA awarded Harden $ 50,000. The Rockets leader was not disqualified for the game.

The Rockets will play the Blazers in the evening from Saturday to Sunday.
