“This new faction is not a secession or an artificial political entity. It is just a union of like-minded people. There are people who have been represented by LVŽS and representatives of the Mixed Seimas membership group”, former Prime Minister S. Skvernelis introduced the new faction.
According to him, Lithuania is currently at odds and divided, which is beneficial to some members of both the position and the opposition: “Both I and my colleagues decided, after lengthy deliberations, that they do not want to participate in a politics of division and conflict of this kind. promotion. “

In total, the new faction will consist of 13 members of the Seimas. It will be the same size as the Lithuanian Social Democratic faction and will have more members than some of the ruling factions, the Freedom (11) and Liberal Movement (12) factions. Only the Lithuanian Christian Democrats of the National Union and the LVŽS will remain in larger factions in the Seimas.
Comrades of the former prime minister in the government, former members of the LVŽS faction – former government chancellor Algirdas Stončaitis, former minister of Social Security and Labor Linas Kukuraitis and former councilor Lukas Savickas – will travel to S.kvernelis to work with the new faction .
Rūta Miliūtė intends to leave the LVŽS faction in the Seimas along with them. It was she and L. Savickas who for some time made no secret of their thoughts of withdrawing from the LVŽS faction after R. Karbauskis threatened to expel from it all those who supported the Law of Association.
Tomas Tomilinas, who has already been expelled from the party, joins the new Seimas faction, as well as members of the LVŽS Laima Mogenienė, Laima Nagienė, Zenonas Streikus and Rima Baškienė faction, a longtime peasant woman who had hesitated until the last minute.
R.Baškienė also announced that he would be leaving the LVŽS party. Other peasants who move into the new faction will follow the same path, he said. He thanked his former colleagues, but argued that the past few years had led to unexpected decisions.
“It just came to our knowledge then. As a member of the new faction, I will leave the LVŽS faction,” he reported.
The Seimas member pointed out that Z.Streikus and L. Mogenienė should also leave the party.
“Together with our colleagues we have decided to go down a path in which we can work in a culture of constructive communication, we value not party affiliation, nor loyalty, but the issues to be resolved by the State,” R. Baškienė said.
The new faction will also include three MPs currently working in the Joint Group of Seimas Members: Vytautas Bakas, Algirdas Butkevičius and Domas Griškevičius.
The politician alluded to the fact that the paths of S. Skvernelis and the peasants may differ in the summer, when T. Tomilinas, who supported the Companies Law, was expelled from the LVŽS, and L. Savickas decided to withdraw from the faction after expressing dissatisfaction R. Miliūtė did not hide his thought of leaving.
In 2016, the non-partisan S. Skvernelis and the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union participated in the Seimas elections, after the party won them the post of Prime Minister until December 2020. Last year, he also ran for the parliament with LVŽS.
