Such a decision was made in September, BNS informed the Justice Ministry.
The Russian Union has not declared its members to the Ministry of Justice since October last year. It previously stated that it had 2104 members.
The law establishes that if a political party does not submit its membership lists twice a year, the Ministry of Justice notifies the Registry of Legal Persons, which initiates the liquidation of the political party through a simplified procedure.
“The liquidation should last a year if the party does not object in court. After that, the Registry Center will remove the party from the Registry of Legal Persons,” the Justice Ministry said in a comment.
The Lithuanian Russian Union is led by Sergei Dmitrijev, current member of the capital city council. BNS could not be reached.
His sister, a former active party member and now a socialist Larisa Dmitrijeva, told BNS on Friday that the Russian union had no plans to disappear from the political map of the country.
“The Russians have not disappeared from Lithuania,” he said.
According to L. Dmitrijeva, the party does not currently have a mandatory minimum of 2,000. membership.
“The party itself is, only a few members have died, now it is necessary to renew. (…) There is no urgency, because we as a party are not participating in these Seimas elections now, ”he said.
According to L. Dmitrijeva, the Registry Center will have to inform the Russian Union about its actions, and the Union will take steps not to liquidate it.
“As long as there is the possibility of having a national party, as long as the people who come here can participate in the municipal elections – many Belarusians and Ukrainians come – why not?”
The Lithuanian Russian Union was founded in 1995 and declares that it represents the Russian-speaking population, deals with their social, cultural and educational affairs and seeks to preserve the Slavic cultural heritage.
At the initiative of the Registry Center, 11 parties were liquidated in 2017: the Lithuanian Humanist Party, the Lithuanian Green Party, the Republican League, the Nation’s Progress Party, the Lithuanian Union of Social Justice, the Party of the Lithuanian Reform, the Lithuanian People’s Party and others.
