The plans to restore the port of Šventoji, the implementation of which begins with the development of the fishing infrastructure, have received criticism from specialists, as the work does not begin with the construction of docks. In the previously prepared 6-stage port rehabilitation scheme, piers of 643 m to the south and 438 m to the north were to be built in Phase I to protect the port entrances from being covered by sand. However, the budget of the municipality of Palanga alone would not be sufficient for the works of this stage.

Last Wednesday, January 27, the issue of the reconstruction of the seaport of Sventoji was discussed at the meeting of the Seimas Economic Committee, which was attended remotely by the mayor of Palanga, Šarūnas Vaitkus, and the Economic Development Division of the Municipal Administration of Palanga, Ramunė Urbonienė. Mindaugas Skritulskas, a member of the Seimas elected in Palanga, emphasized that the reconstruction of the port should not rest solely on the shoulders of the municipality of the city of Palanga, and proposed that this issue be included in the Government’s Action Plan; this would open up wider opportunities. seek funding for the reconstruction of the port not only, but also with EU funds.

The Seimas Economic Committee decided unanimously to propose to the Government the inclusion of the Sventoji port reconstruction project as a strategic objective of the State in the plan of measures for the execution of the Government program.
