The cat was injured in the car. AG was still trying to treat it himself, but when he wasn’t recovering, he decided to get rid of the animal – he threw the cat with its hind legs tied into the snow. The found cat was put to sleep.

“The person treated their cat inappropriately and cruelly. He did not take proper care of the animal when he was injured, – says Vaidas Kazlauskas, a judge at the Raseiniai Palace of the Šiauliai District Court, who examined the case of administrative misconduct. “The man tied the hind legs of the animal and left it in the snow to die.”

The court ruled that failure to provide veterinary assistance when animals need such assistance, intimidation, injury, or killing of animals is considered torture of animals, except as provided by law. A resident of the Raseiniai district indicated in the written explanation that he admits and regrets the violation. This is an extenuating circumstance, no aggravating circumstances have been identified, the Šiauliai District Court said in a statement.

A fine of between € 300 and € 1,750 is foreseen for cruelty to animals, torture of animals where there is a risk of death or mutilation. As AG, who was not administratively punished and was not working, admitted that he had treated his cat brutally, was critical of his actions and the court imposed a minimal fine for the crime.

The court ruled that AG on February 8 this year. In the Raseiniai district, he tied his cat’s hind legs with a plastic leash so it would not be distracted, put the cat in a bag and took it to a remote location by car, dumped it and buried it in the snow.

Resolution in 20 days. From the day a copy of the judgment is sent or issued, an appeal can be made to the Šiauliai Regional Court by filing an appeal through the Raseiniai Chamber of the Šiauliai District Court.
