“One of the main reasons for the change in our attitudes towards children, children’s rights, violence, we are intolerant, we react and inform the institutions in the hope that help will be provided,” said I. Skuodienė in the program “Delfi diena”.

In 2020, a total of 39,430 reports of possible violations of children’s rights were received.

According to I. Skuodienė, there are situations in which friends are called to report a difficult situation, just as neighbors request conflict situations.

According to the head of the service, the fewest complaints were received at the beginning of the first and second quarantines, in April and November, due to the reduced opportunities to detect violations.

“I cannot say that the situation in the families has been better, but those who were able to report simply did not have the opportunity to see the rights of the child violated. <…> The circle of speakers has been significantly reduced and only the police have stayed due to conflicts and violent situations in families, ”said I. Skuodienė.

Most of the reports were received in Šiauliai county, where specialists contacted one in eight children. According to I. Skuodienė, Šiauliai and Panevėžys counties are always distinguished by the number of reports.

“It just came to our knowledge then [lemia] regionalism, people’s financial opportunities, education, opportunities to enter the labor market, social skills. The whole social package really has a great influence, ”commented I. Skuodienė.

According to her, violations of children’s rights are not detected in all cases when applied, however, she emphasized, last year and this year really requires special attention.

“In 2020, there were very difficult situations, especially children falling through windows, accidents, violent situations. And this year there have been painful situations that have had very serious consequences, ”said the Director of the Adoption and Protection of Children’s Rights Service.

According to her, part of these accidents may also be due to people’s emotional overwork.

“Parents work at home in two positions: they do their work and there are teachers and educators. It is obvious that in two duties at home, it is extraordinary to be alert, to be active at all times. I think one of the reasons is fatigue, emotional fatigue, depression, apathy, inattention ”, said I. Skuodienė on the program“ Delfi diena ”.
