The proposal to penalize the car owner, not the driver, for speeding has received support: Skvernelis also agrees

“It would certainly simplify the recovery procedure itself, where there is no dispute. There may be opinions that we have heard, whether such an objective exists or whether the owner will be punished not for the violation, although in many states such violations, especially those recorded with hardware, are punished by the owner, “Skvernel told reporters on Wednesday.

“In terms of efficiency and recovery, it is an effective tool, but for several years it has been offered in various ways in Lithuania,” added the prime minister.

However, S. Skvernel noted that due to some violations committed by the driver, the owner of the car could even lose his rights.

“The problem will only need to be addressed, because for speeding-related violations, there is a responsibility to disqualify driving. We will have to work here if the project paves the way,” said S. Skvernelis.

If Seimas decides to approve this draft amendment to the law, the new procedure will take effect next year.
