President Gitanas Nausėda, starting his working day for the capital on Friday, discussed remotely with the mayor of Vilnius, Remigijus Šimašius, the preparations for the mass vaccination against the coronavirus, the 700th anniversary of Vilnius that is approaching, the issues of current affairs of the protection of cultural heritage and territorial planning.
The president emphasized that in order to obtain herd public immunity against COVID-19 as soon as possible, every effort must be made to ensure that larger shipments of vaccines arriving in Lithuania are not detained in warehouses. A fluent digital registration system, an algorithm for timely information of the population, and a control mechanism for the use of vaccines are necessary for the smooth course of vaccination.
The President highlighted that he is currently listening to concerns from the representatives of the regions because the vaccination communication campaign had not been launched, the municipality lacked information on how to ensure the registration and vaccination process in a transparent manner and the vaccination strictly by priority groups .
According to the head of state, urban communities could also get involved in vaccination communication and contribute to informing the population, mobilizing and making vaccination accessible to representatives of social risk groups.
The meeting discussed the situation in preschool and general education institutions. The Head of State drew attention to the problem of the lack of places for preschool education in Vilnius and recalled the need to prepare for 2021. guarantee preschool education for all children from families at social risk by September 2023; September – universal 4 m. preschool education of older children, thus implementing the provisions of the same beginning.
Speaking about the upcoming 700th anniversary of Vilnius, the president emphasized that it was not only a celebration of the city, but also a celebration of national and international importance, which must be properly prepared in cooperation with various institutions, and promised to support the needs of Vilnius.
