After the meeting, the president positively evaluated both the competence and the experience of the candidate. The President highlighted that he had received very specific answers to very specific questions. It can be seen that the candidate is familiar not only with the field in which he is currently working, but also with the field of communication. He was also impressed by the fact that he emphasized the need for transparency in the financing of asphalt roads, “A. Bubnelis said at a press conference Sunday after meeting with the candidate.

“The president will deliver his final assessment to the prime minister as soon as the meeting can take place,” he added.

During the meeting with the candidate, G. Nausėda discussed the objectives of green policy and the development of infrastructure projects.

During the meeting, several, in the opinion of the president, the most important priorities in the transport sector were discussed. These are the competitiveness of this sector, maintaining the importance for national security, the development of strategic transport and infrastructure projects, the accessibility of Lithuania by air and the implementation of the green policy ”, said A. Bubnelis.

The presidency has yet to receive a candidate for agriculture ministers.

Among the works is the clarification of decision making

Mr. Skuodis said that he had discussed three work priorities with the President. Among them, the most important candidate mentioned transparency in the transport sector.

“The first thing is absolute transparency in decision-making and the disclosure of the data on which these decisions are based. The public is outraged by certain decisions about paving one way or another or certain investment decisions. What I would like to achieve in both the short and long term is that the criteria for investment decisions are very clear to the public, that they are presented to the public and that any Lithuanian resident can easily check why one decision or another has been made ”Said M. Skuodis.

The second priority, according to the candidate, is related to the transport sector and the management of its emissions.

“There are big challenges ahead, both for the European green course and for the need for digitization and innovation. The Ministry of Transport will have a key role to play here, as the President has underlined, simply because of our responsibilities. Only in terms of pollution , transport, the automotive sector is one of those that, according to the data, is one of the most polluting. And here we will have to find solutions to this situation together with other initiatives, both railway electrification and sustainable mobility plans in the cities, ”said M. Skuodis.

The third priority, according to M. Skuodis, is to change the focus of infrastructure projects.
“When it comes to transport and infrastructure, very often we talk about the construction of one or another facility, but we also have to think about sustainable mobility plans, we have to talk about what needs to be on the side of the road. Even when planning the infrastructure, we should have answers to the questions, what’s next? Whats Next? And that requires a new approach in the field of the Ministry of Transport and Communications ”, he said.

After the Ministry of Transport and Communications approved the new Lithuanian Railway Board on Friday, M. Skuodis declared that it was disrespectful to the new government.

“Decisions are made a week before the end of the government’s term, which in the first place shows a certain lack of respect for both the Seimas and the public, and probably also for the railways themselves, which employ some 10,000 people. . workers. Some last minute decisions even seem a kind of desperation, “said M. Skuodis.

Had he been appointed minister, M. Skuodis stated that he intended to evaluate the selection process of the Lithuanian Railway Board.
