“I have a friend and my neighbor is married, lives with a husband and children, we did not believe, so we decided to call my poor relative,” says Sabina Jarinska, a 24-year-old resident of the Šalčininkai district who has not had any application of the law.
The neighbor Sabina spoke of is Natalia Vaskunovich, 37. She was also prosecuted, and prosecutors suspected that Goya villagers, along with a UK guest, Natalia Liapina (37), had recruited a fictitious man from the same village to marry a dark-skinned man.
S. Jarinska and N. Vaskunovič believe that N. Liapina, who is, incidentally, the cousin of N. Vaskunovič, would not even have been involved in this criminal record. The women accused of human trafficking were tried in the Vilnius district court this week.
Prosecutor Ramūnas Šileika, who supports the state prosecutor’s office, said that on the night of January 11 last year, during a party, N. Liapina offered to find a girl who could fictitiously marry a foreigner. The women did not sit idly by and immediately found a candidate: S. Jarinska’s aunt; That this village is known as a woman of free behavior, often drinker, has lost a child raised by the father of a minor.
That same night, S. Jarinska and N. Vaskunovič went to the home of a prospective girlfriend and offered to join the party. Nijolė (change of name) immediately agreed, and when she was brought to N. Vaskunovič’s home, where the drinking took place, she learned of the offer to marry a foreigner from N. Liapina.
According to the prosecutor, the “girlfriend” was promised 15,000 euros for the simulated marriage, and was promised that the spouse would stay with her for half a year, but they would not have to live together, nor would she have an intimate relationship. with the. Also, for the marriage, Nijole was promised that he would receive a VIP card with which he could pay whatever he wanted, live in a hotel, and most importantly, there would be no negative consequences of a sham marriage.
Natalia Liapina
Nijolė accepted immediately, but the “matchmaker” and her friends offered not to rush, to discuss all the circumstances in the morning when she recovered. But even in the morning, Nijole did not keep her promise, so she was soon taken to the passport department, where she was issued a passport as a matter of urgency.
But when the “bride” told her loved ones about her plans to soon move to the UK to marry a completely unknown man here, everything collapsed: the woman realized that she most likely fell into the trap of criminals and sell her like a doll. .
After refusing to go to the UK, Nijolė turned to the police and said that Vaskunovič, who had paid € 71 for the presentation of the passport, demanded a refund or return of the passport.
“The victim is still afraid to talk about what happened, she was subjected to psychological violence, she even hid for a while, and there is also evidence in the case that she went home and demanded a refund,” said Nijole, a lawyer court representative. At his request, the judge who heard the criminal case, Arūnas Budrys, decided to interrogate the victim from a distance: he will not have the opportunity to confront the accused face to face.
The victim also asks the defendants to pay 5,000. Eur to compensate moral damages.
Ms Jarinska and Ms Vaskunovič, who have been prosecuted for human trafficking, only partially admit their guilt and say they never thought it a crime to offer Nijole to marry. together, but victims and witnesses will also be questioned.
Natalia Vaskunovich
“I didn’t understand it was a crime,” Vaskunovich, 37, told the court. “Nijole has been told of such a life in the UK, and I would like to.”
The woman said that N. Liapina was visiting her home that night; During the party, the women talked about mutual acquaintances and discussed their lives.
“Somehow we talk about Nijole: she is a beautiful girl, but lately she has been neglected, she does not take care of herself at all, she drinks constantly,” said N. Vaskunovič. – And then Ms Liapina offered to help her – to get into a fake marriage, she also said that she would help her get a job in England, only, of course, if she wanted. We thought that maybe it was worth it, when leaving the town, a new stage of life would begin “.
The woman said that S. Jarinska, who contacted Nijole by phone, offered to have dinner together, and as she agreed, they went to fetch her.
“Nijole said that his life is very poor, even the roof of the house is hollow, so N. Liapina asked if he would not want to earn money,” said N. Vaskunovič. – She wanted to, so they told her she would have to go to England and marry some man. N. Liapina told the future very well: that she will not be able to live with the groom, because she only needs a stamp in the passport. He said he would provide him with food, clothes, give him a VIP card with which he could pay. Furthermore, she said that Nijolė could work if she wanted and send the money to her relatives in Lithuania, because her husband would not have given the money. “
According to the defendant, when Nijolė agreed, N. Liapina even showed a photo of the groom looking for a girlfriend: “I don’t remember what he was like, I only know that he is a dark man.”
Nijolė and S. Jarinska agreed with Nijolė’s choice: “We said you should go and earn money, maybe then everyone in the village will forget your drunkenness, they will stand up in England and return rich to Lithuania.”
The bride had to fly to London a few days later, so there was an urgent need to present an identity document because Nijole’s identity card had been damaged. But the women found a solution: in the passport section, they ordered a passport, which was made in one day. True, before that, Nijole was dressed in more beautiful clothes, and in the new market before the trip she had promised to provide N. Liapina.
“I asked Nijole three times if he really agreed to marry fictitiously,” Vaskunovic said. – As she did not doubt her decision, I gave her money to present a passport, but when it was done, Nijolė spoke with her mother and told her that she would not go anywhere, and that if we did not let her the police would complain that we wanted sell it. I was very surprised, I said, let’s go to the police, we’ll find out if it’s a crime, but we didn’t go anyway. “
The woman did not deny that she demanded money from Nijole, who had paid urgently for the presentation of the passport, and since she did not have it, she once demanded that the document be handed over to her:
That Nijole was going to be sold as a bride, rumors spread through town in an instant.
“They all said I was a colleague and wanted to sell it,” Vaskunovich was angry. He added that he still sees the victim in town, but communicates with her.
Sabina Jarinska (dešinėje)
At the time, S. Jarinska admitted that she and S. Vaskunovič had been promised a reward of 300 euros each for finding the bride. It was a lot of money for Ms Jarinska, who was now out of work, so she, as she said herself, really wanted Nijole to go away and get married in the UK.
“I didn’t think there was anything wrong with him getting married; after all, marriage is marriage, you just have to get married,” he said in court. – Ms. Liapina said that there is a young boy who needs to get married. I have a boyfriend, S. Vaskunovič, a man and children, so we offered him Nijole, we thought we would do him good, he would recover, he could start a new life, he would get his son back. Of course, I will not hide, I also wanted to receive the promised money ”.
S. Jarinska, who was prosecuted, said she did not feel like a smuggler, but accused herself of only inviting Nijole to a party that night. “She is the cousin of my aunt’s mother, I wanted to help her, I don’t think I convinced her, she had the opportunity to say no,” said the defendant.
If the defendant’s guilt is proven in court, he will face a prison sentence of two to six years.
