A group that distributed drugs in the city was arrested in Utena, Utena County Police reported Wednesday. According to the police, a total of 18 people have been charged in the investigation since December last year, and five of them have been arrested for periods ranging from 15 days to three months.

A total of 18 searches were conducted at Utena during the investigation, during which around 1,500 tablets with suspected drugs, cannabis and amphetamines were found and seized.

Also during the search, officers found equipment to pack drugs and cash believed to have been obtained from illegal activities.

The suspects were reported to have followed a special conspiracy, to try not to have personal contact with the buyers, to hide the ongoing crime and to sell the drugs through others.

According to the police, several suspects are linked to organized crime.

If proven guilty in court, the suspects face between two and fifteen years in prison.
