At today’s remote meeting of the Minister of the Interior Agnė Bilotaitė with Police Commissioner General Renatas Požėla, the plan for the implementation of measures to restrict movement in January this year was discussed.
“The last three weekends have been a good experience in controlling the movement of people. The mobility of the population has decreased significantly, but the festive period is over, so the police are taking new tactics, taking into account the particularities of the working week and weekends, ”says Interior Minister A. Bilotaitė .
In January, more agents will be deployed on weekends and fewer on weekdays. According to the Police Department under the Ministry of the Interior, there will be less organization of stationary checkpoints throughout the country, but movement control will be more active on a mobile basis in unannounced locations and at unannounced hours.
There will be fewer massive urban closures in January, but more unexpected inspections will take place in municipal urban areas. The officials will carefully and thoroughly investigate the reasons and circumstances of the arrival of the people; those that do not have a valid reason will be subject to administrative responsibility. Officials will also check the sobriety of vehicle drivers and assess traffic violations.
“In those parts of the country bordering urban municipalities, the design of checkpoints is changing, so people will experience much less inconvenience. Each district police station is free to consider the particularities of the district. and apply other control measures, ”says Police Commissioner General R. Požėla.
A separate specificity of traffic control in the Lithuanian coastal area and tourist cities will be applied: there will be more stationary stalls here, so people are encouraged not to plan trips unnecessarily as they may have to turn around and to return.
This week, the Military Police will work together with the police officers and, as of next weekend, officials from other statutory bodies of the Ministry of the Interior will join – State Border Guard Service, Public Security Service, Department of Protection Against Fire and Rescue – and members of the Riflemen’s Union.
In the first two days of this week, officials did not lose nearly 800 vehicles, 280 administrative lawsuits were initiated for quarantine violations.
