The plumbers barely manage to turn: “The men take the initiative, they try to do it themselves, they break everything”

For some time, the quarantine has made it clear that it is difficult to work, produce, have fun and live in the same environment. We recently wrote about the fact that people would even break glass in ovens while cooking at home.

Turns out, washing dishes is inevitable – plumbers say they get incredible numbers of calls home.

Sink

The number of calls has increased

Get Fix, a home delivery company, says there are strong trends in home calling. Most people ask for help installing or repairing machinery.

“There are two categories of orders. When people buy some items, chandeliers, bathroom equipment, faucets and need to replace them, they turn to craftsmen for help. Another category before some kind of problem. The electricity, the fuses have been lost, the sewers have to be cleaned and things like that, ”says Get Fix.

The “universal master” plumber Andrius also says that he receives all kinds of orders, but that he hasn’t heard so many calls for help yet. Especially many craftsmen are invited due to clogged drains and faulty taps.

“Since everyone is sitting at home, they are calling because there is a clogged sewer. The number of invitations has increased a lot, you can say that the number has increased by 100%, if not 150%, ”says Andrius.

Watch what goes into the pipes

Most of the time, according to plumbers, problems are due to irresponsible human behavior. People often don’t see what they pour into the sewer.

“Do not empty into the drains with grease or coffee grounds. The sewer is not a garbage can, but since our people do not keep their property, they dump everything. At the last minute, there was a case where a man in the kitchen had a mill and he thought you could pour everything. I found that the eggshell went through the floor of the mill. It was light, it stopped in the sewer itself. I had to disassemble the sewer, wash the pipes and put them back ” says Andrius.

Get Fix says the best prevention to avoid unexpected problems is to buy a small strainer that will collect hair, food scraps, and other debris while it’s still in the sink.

Plumber Karolis says all food waste is dangerous for kitchen pipes, and hairs and soap pieces are the most dangerous for bathroom drains.

“If it’s a shower, you basically get your hair clogged with soap. Usually new stairs or shower gutters have so-called hair traps, but older models can go straight into the sewer system and get stuck there, ”says Karolis, a Get3.lt plumber.

Soda in the bathroom

It is better not to take risks

If pipes are clogged, plumbers say, a simple pump or chemicals to clean the pipes should help.

“There is a myth that chemistry damages sewage tanks, but in reality, if we use chemistry in moderation, it doesn’t really clog and helps keep the system clean, it removes grease. Of course, moderate consumption, if you pour it every day there will be nothing good either. This does not damage the pipe, the pipes are manufactured taking into account that chemicals can be used for cleaning, ”says Karolis.

If a major blockage occurs in the pipe, plumbers recommend calling in specialists and not arbitrarily dismantling the pipes.

“It’s often about the men taking the initiative themselves, trying to do it themselves, breaking everything. So their wives, not them, ask for repairs. Let’s say there is a kitchen siphon like a Lego and the men no longer know how. He gets angry, throws everything away and leaves. Or they come up with the idea of replacing the faucet in the bathroom shower, breaking something and leaving it too, “laughs the plumber Andrius.

Plumbers also do not recommend abusing household products such as a mixture of vinegar and soda. These measures help in rare cases and can sometimes cause even more damage.

“If, for example, hair (vinegar and soda – aut. past.) definitely won’t help if household waste can help a bit, but an accident usually happens afterward. It starts to foam too much, bubbles and foam swells through the pipe joints. It is not advisable to do those things, “shares Karolis.

At present, Lithuania has a quarantine regime, it is recommended to stay at home as often as possible. You can find other important information related to quarantine in the illustration on tv3.lt.
