The streets are not cleaned
A resident of Calle Margirio, who called the JP office of the news portal, made sure that this short street, 407 meters, was not cleaned at all.
“Margirio Street is never cleaned. I don’t remember when I would have seen a snowplow. It is completely impossible to pass, much less walk through it. The snow used to do it so much, and since nobody cleaned it, ridges formed and it was more and more difficult to cross this street ”, explained the woman.
The order is coordinated
Sigitas Vainauskas, Head of the City Management Department of the company Panevėžys Special Motor Transport, explained that the uninterrupted maintenance of the streets during the winter was prepared and coordinated with the Administration of the Municipality of Panevėžys.

“The streets and sidewalks of the city are cleaned, extended and mechanically and manually maintained according to priorities. First of all, the main streets of the city are cleaned: the busiest streets, the public transport routes. The second priority is the side streets, axial streets of residential neighborhoods, which are difficult to clean with small machinery due to the large and heavy snow cover. For this reason, heavy machinery and graders are used for this ”, S. Vainauskas presented the priorities of street cleaning.
Guilty residents
When asked when the residents of Margirio Street will be cleaned because residents complain about the impassable street, the head of the company’s Municipal Management Department, S. Vainauskas, said that this is a problem street.
“I know this street. When the cars are no longer parked on both sides, the levelers will be able to get through it and clear the snow. The residents themselves are to blame for not being able to clean this street properly. On the other hand, where do they park their cars if they just don’t fit in the backyards? There are not many such streets in Panevėžys that we cannot clean. They are narrow, and when the cars are parked on both sides, the cars that push the snow do not pass, ”said S. Vainauskas.
Hired two raters
According to the interlocutor, although a cleaning schedule for the side streets has been drawn up, the alleys remain uncleaned.

“These days, the streets are cleaned in Rožynas. Then we will clean other non-important streets. By the way, we also rented two graders to speed up the cleaning of the streets. How to better organize the cleaning of the streets where the cars are parked is difficult to answer. Maybe allow cars to park on only one side of the street? However, this must be decided by the Municipality, not by our company, “explained S. Vainauskas.
The technique cannot pass
Vilija Gylienė, Chief Specialist of the City Infrastructure Department of the Panevžys Municipality, explained to the JP news portal that after heavy snowfall, the main streets are constantly being cleaned and the side streets are currently being cleaned.
“The worst thing is that it is difficult to clean the narrow streets where the parked cars are parked overnight, the machinery cannot pass. Cars are parked on both sides of the street. If they were at least standing to the side, then it is possible to push the snow a little. On the other hand, I know Margirio Street. The residents of this street and the Municipality also call it. But residents of apartment buildings do not complain. The owners of private houses complain, “said V. Gylienė.
No plan
The official cannot say how to clean the streets where the abandoned cars are parked; there is no such plan.
“It may be necessary to allow cars to park on only one side of the street or to prohibit cars to park on the street. These bans are valid on the streets of Nemunas and Klaipėda and there are no problems with the management of the streets. A few years ago, parking on Ramygalos street was fixed on odd and even days. But the order did not work, the owners of the cars built them as they wanted. Something needs to be thought so that abandoned vehicles do not interfere with the cleaning of the streets, ”said V. Gylienė, Chief Specialist for the City’s Infrastructure Department.
