In this project, administrators sought to limit direct payments to farmers and establish that interrelated people, even fourth-line relatives on the sidelines, could not receive more than 150,000. by year.
After the media announced the rulers ‘intentions, farmers’ representatives who had nothing to do with politics reacted to them, saying that such ambitions of the rulers would render many peasants unemployed. Members of the LVŽS faction were also quick to react to this, proposing in their registered draft that these rulers restrictions should apply only to R. Karbauskis, because that is the sole purpose of vengeful rulers.
“From the way the rulers’ project was presented, I am convinced that the rulers registered it to face their biggest political opponent, although by taking revenge on the opponent they also take revenge on thousands of Lithuanian farmers who would do nothing.
For Lithuanian farmers, the loss of direct payments would mean a drastic reduction in income and ultimately a risk of bankruptcy, especially in years when yields are lower due to climatic factors.
Recall that in 2017-2019, which was characterized by lower yields, when the payments simply rescued the rescued farmers and kept their production competitive in Europe. Several companies that apply to the members of the Seimas, such as the AUGA group, fear that the regulation proposed by Mykolas Majauskas and his colleagues will distort the competitive conditions.
For example, in Lithuania, small farmers receive payments more than three times that of agricultural enterprises (in addition to direct payments, small farmers can also receive payments for the first 30 ha and payments for young farmers), while in Germany this is gap is twice as small and 1.5 times.
In other words, even the current system does not allow Lithuanian companies to be competitive in markets like Germany. By changing and ending the system for a large part of the profits, competitiveness would be further distorted and it would be impossible to compete in foreign markets, ”says Valius Ąžuolas, member of the LVŽS faction.
According to member of the Seimas Agnė Širinskien es, it is surprising that the rulers take all possible measures just to take revenge on the opposition or isolate it.
“We have seen projects aimed at depriving the opposition of the chairmanship of the Audit Committee and the Anti-Corruption Committee, then the rulers created amendments to the Constitution to prohibit the president of the LVŽS party from running for the Seimas, now trying to pressure the LVŽS leader. It is important that the revenge of the rulers does not at least harm the people of Lithuania, so we have registered amendments whereby we offer to limit the benefits to only one person, to whom those restrictions were mainly directed: the leader of LVŽS, R Karbauskis.
Let it be the law of Karbauskis, if the rulers planned to rule the state according to their revenge plans, but at least in this way we will preserve the economic position of other Lithuanian farmers, protect their families and even distant relatives: the conservatives intend to deducting the profits even from, that is, even the land owned by the farmer’s parent cousins will be included in the calculation of the payments. Which hardly meets the criteria of reasonableness and fairness, ”says A. Širinskienė.
