The painter Linas Leonas Katinas dies: “There are very few free people like this”

The news about the painter’s death was confirmed by Eglė Ganda Bogdanienė, president of the Lithuanian Artists Union, on BNS on Wednesday.

“I spoke with her daughter, she confirmed it to me,” said E. Bogdanienė. He said he had worked with the artist at the Vilnius Academy of Arts for about a decade.

“We work in the Department of Textiles. So I was a presenter and he was a teacher. We started about 20 years ago and ended 10 years ago, ”he said.

According to E.Bogdanienė, L. Katinas was “an individualist, like a real cat that walks alone”. However, he stressed that the painter was not alone.

L. Katinas was born in 1941 in Radviliškis. In 1964 he graduated in architecture from the Lithuanian Institute of Art and since 1967 has organized exhibitions of his works in Lithuania and abroad. In the same year, the artist became a member of the Union of Lithuanian Artists.

In 1999, L. Katinas received the Lithuanian National Prize for Art and Culture.

The painter’s work is described as cosmological. It is dominated by images of extraterrestrial spaces, celestial bodies and processes of the universe.
