In Šakiai district, officers from the Pagėgiai border team of the SBGS detained a Belarusian citizen who crossed the border illegally from Russia. He came to Lithuania after rebuilding Šešupė.
The offender was arrested near the town of Slavikai on Wednesday when he landed on the Lithuanian coast. The Šešupė, in the center of which runs the Russian border, is about 30 meters wide and about a meter deep. An official Belgian pastor, Coco, was also involved in the arrest.

The SBGS Pagėgiai border team has launched a pre-trial investigation into the illegal crossing of the state border. An alien faces a fine or arrest, or imprisonment for up to two years.
The detainee, who will be examined for COVID-19, has been locked up in the temporary detention facilities of the Viešvilė border guard.
