Green peasant leaders do not give up and calculate that a variant of the center-left ruling coalition in Lithuania is still possible.
“It just came to our notice then. If we don’t calm down, another round awaits us,” said Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, leader of the Lithuanian Peasant Green Union list.
He still hopes that a center-left coalition can finally be formed in Lithuania.
“The second round can make a significant and meaningful adjustment to the results, and anything can be,” Skvernell said.
List leader LVŽS said preliminary talks were taking place with other parties.
“It just came to our attention then. (…) Both the president and the president are speaking,” said S. Skvernelis.
Calculate that the result can also deviate in a favorable direction for them
LVŽS President Ramūnas Karbauskis said that now the most important task for them is to focus support for center-left candidates.
“Our candidates are speaking in all the districts. It is obvious that the most important thing now is to focus on supporting the candidates of the center-left parties, that is, on the support of the” peasants “to other center-left parties. , his candidates and others, towards us, “said R. Karbauskis.
In his opinion, his main rival in the elections has already reached his ceiling.
“If the people come to the elections and participate actively in the second round of the elections, the result of the elections will be determined by their self-determination. If it is a decision that will be favorable to the center-left parties, then the electoral result is far from being clear, ”said R. Karbauskis.
The LVŽS leader explained that at this stage the possible formation of a coalition is not discussed.
“We are not talking to anyone about the possible formation of a coalition, neither S. Skvernelis nor I are talking. We are only talking with candidates and colleagues that we should help each other in the second round of the elections,” said R. Karbauskis.
The LVŽS leader calculated how many more seats he would have to win to form a multiple ruler.
“We have 33 rounds of seconds. Social Democrats – 12, Labor Party – 2, Lithuanian Social Democratic Labor Party – 4, Polish Lithuanian Election Campaign – Union of Christian Families – 1, there are still some, if I am not mistaken, three independent candidates in the second round. There will be a tough fight, but the election will end only in the second round of elections, and then it will become clear on which side: the center left or the right has more. (…)
The math is such that (in general) more than 71 (mandates) are needed. If we talk about our result, then we have more likely to have about 24 (terms) to be able to hope to form a governing coalition. That is, of the candidates now running, only nine could lose. (…) ‘Peasants’ story. If we talk about potential partners, then in the situation of the Social Democrats, they have candidates in the so-called rural districts. They have many possibilities in those municipalities. We believe that the Social Democrats can add another 7 seats, the Labor Party can really add another, if not two, probably three the Labor parties of the Social Democrats should achieve (the victory), LLRA-KŠS – another plus one, “said R. Karbauskis .
He called that scenario realistic, but acknowledged that it would all depend on how many people went to the polls.
“If we talk about the first round, the number of voters who came is more or less satisfactory so that we can have an optimistic option, but if it decreases – and can decrease – then one thing is clear, then the conservatives will win everything,” he said R. Karbauskis.
As already announced, a total of 6 parties in the multinominal constituency have crossed the 5 percent voter cartel, according to preliminary data from the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
Thus, half of the Seimas – 70 seats – in the next legislature will look like this: 23 conservatives, 16 peasants, 9 “workers”, 8 Social Democrats, 8 members of the Freedom Party and 6 members of the Liberal Movement.
