After the riots near the capital of Seimas, the municipality announced on Wednesday that it will revoke the permits agreed for neighborhood meetings, and commercial and cultural events will be held.
“All the assembly permits issued so far have been revoked and we will review them in light of the new context that we saw after yesterday’s events (…). The commercial and cultural events that have been planned will take place, ”Deputy Director of Administration Adomas Bužinskas told reporters on Wednesday.
He also said that the municipality had approached the Department of Homeland Security (SSD) to parliament after the riots, asking for an assessment from both the organizers of the previous rally and future meetings.
Among other things, according to A. Bužinskas, the current Assemblies Law has loopholes.

“Currently, the municipality is only authorized to issue a permit and if something goes wrong according to the plan, as we saw yesterday, we as an institution cannot take any action or impose fines,” he added.
The next protest is in early September.
The deputy director of the municipal administration said that several permits had been revoked and that the next meeting for which the permit had been issued was scheduled for September 10.

Fifteen officers were injured in the incident.
A pre-trial investigation into the riots has been launched, with 26 people arrested.
