At just a few days old, the baby is being transported from the Panevėžys Republican Hospital to the Santara Clinics in Vilnius for treatment.
A boy wrapped in a blanket in the stairwell of the house on Vilties Street was found lying there Monday morning and was already in serious condition.
The baby’s body temperature had dropped to a critical level, he underwent warm-up procedures and the necessary tests were performed. “The baby was in our hospital on Thursday. If they took him to the Vilnius clinics, then he needed help, which we cannot provide,” said Vytautas Riaubiškis, spokesman for the Panevėžys Hospital.
The Panevėžys Division for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (VTAS) assessed the situation and identified the need to protect the baby. The department’s specialists yesterday asked the court for permission to establish temporary custody of the child. “If the court grants this permission, the Service will apply to the municipality of Panevėžys for the establishment of temporary custody. This would ensure a safe environment and adequate care for the child,” said Rūta Karčiauskienė, specialist in the Division of Public Relations and Communication from the State Service for the Protection and Adoption of Children’s Rights.
Wanted to recover
VTAS also communicates with the child’s mother. The latter, with the help of the public, was found by the police the next day after his heinous act. The woman’s physical and psychological condition was first evaluated by the doctors. This is a working, non-social resident of Panevėžys. Officers found her at home. The woman did not resist and immediately confessed what she had done. The mother expressed the wish that child rights specialists recover and raise the lost child.

The problem of providing other social services has also been raised. will solve, “explained R. Karčiauskienė. The mother did not want to change the name of Vytis that child rights advocates gave the baby.
Interviewed by the police.
Panevėžys has already been questioned by the police. Officers from the Panevėžys County Chief Police Station launched a pre-trial investigation, and the detainee was detained on the promise not to leave. There are still no other possible culprits in the incident. “The pre-trial investigation continues, material is being collected,” said Tadas Martinaitis, a communication specialist with the Panevėžys County Chief Police Commissariat.
