Today, 33 of the 46 military personnel who have already received training have filled the vacancies prepared by the army in the NVSC facilities, who will carry out the procedures for the initial survey of people infected by COVID-19 and compile the data in databases. His ability to speak English and Russian was also taken into account when inviting the soldiers.

The Lithuanian Armed Forces, in response to the concern of the President of Lithuania about the insufficient capacity of the NVSC to trace the transmission of the coronavirus infection and the request received from the NVSC and the order of the Minister of National Defense, activated the Working Group in Times of Peace.

Soldiers and professional military service soldiers serving on the 8th National Defense Volunteer Force (NDVF) team in the Greater Combat District have been called in for NVSC assistance. Soldiers from the General Staff of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas and the Professional Military Service of the Information and Communication Systems Battalions have also been activated to ensure communication.

Volunteer soldiers are ready to assist epidemiologists for 6 weeks, but in the event of a large flow of information or increased needs from the NVSC, the number of troops assigned to the task may increase.

As required by law, the military may be required to provide assistance to the forces of the civil protection system in the event of an emergency declaration. During an emergency, civil protection forces direct and respond to operations. The Lithuanian Armed Forces can be used to assist the forces of the civil protection system when the Minister of National Defense receives a written request from the Chairman of the State Emergency Commission to assist the forces of the civil protection system in carrying out rescue work and other emergency tasks.
