Two traffickers from the Šalčininkai district were detained in the Čepkeliai reserve, among other things, without having the necessary permits to visit a protected natural area.
On Wednesday, border guard officers A.Barauskas from the Varėna border team of the SBGS noticed and detained two suspicious people with carriers near Katra village in Varėna district. This place is located in the border section, in the Čepkeliai State Nature Reserve.
It turned out that the 20- and 34-year-old residents of the Šalčininkai district had four bundles tied and secured with self-made suspenders. They contained 2000 packages of Fest cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.
Not only that, both criminals were without identity documents in the State Border Protection Zone (VSAZ).
Both offenders were in the state border protection zone (VSAZ) without identity documents or mandatory border guard permits. Furthermore, smugglers did not have permission from the Čepkeliai Reserve Authority to enter this protected area.
The illegal circulation of excise goods in violation of the established procedure led to the initiation of administrative procedures by border guards. The 20-year-old smuggler faces a fine of 5,200 to 6,000 euros for this crime. Another Šalčininkai district resident became involved in smuggling a second time, he faces a fine of 5,760 to 6,000 euros.
Both smugglers should also be held administratively responsible for violations of the laws that regulate the border legal regime, that is, unauthorized access to the SSIA. Such an offense carries a warning or a fine of 40 to 90 euros.
The material about this event was handed over by the A.Barauskas border guards to the Čepkeliai Reserve Directorate, which will decide how to punish the two men who were in the reserve without permits.
After questioning, SBGS officials released them. Cigarettes are stored at the A.Barauskas border firewall.
