The chiefs of the city’s municipalities told LRT television late Wednesday that they expected a different solution due to the expectations generated. According to them, people cannot leave the cities for nature and walk or fish safely, and the police cannot enforce restrictions.
“The municipalities of the ring, especially the small ones like Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Alytus, are the only mechanism that works. This mechanism has so many interconnections that there is no logic to disturb those interfaces at the city border, ”said Šiauliai Mayor Artūras Visockas.
“We are disappointed, of course, because we were waiting for the problem to be solved today,” said the mayor of Panevėžys, Rytis Račkauskas.
Alytus Mayor Nerijus Cesiulis says residents, for example, who go fishing, now lie to officials who go to funerals and pharmacies.
“We try to fool ourselves so that people don’t move. People are moving and really very, very strong, let’s look at the February 16 celebrations, let’s see where people celebrated, what they did, who they interacted with, who they baked pancakes with (…). There are not enough police to control ”, he emphasized.
On Wednesday, the government decided not to consider quarantined releases for now and postponed the issue until next week, although the government’s emergency commission on Monday proposed a gradual resumption of movement in ring municipalities.
