Šarūnas Vaitkus was interviewed by journalist Jolanta Svirnelytė.

The long weekend has gained momentum, so what is the situation in Palanga?

The situation in Palanga is calm, there are many people. People are ready for a quality rest, many families with children travel.

In fact, a very cultured audience. This was also shown last weekend, when only a few events were recorded. I do not remember when 500 thousand people rested in Palanga. folks, that was about last weekend.

And this is going to be very easy. There will be a lot of people and you can already see that there are enough people. I am happy with the cultural audience of Palanga.

Last weekend we saw that Palanga was flooded, the streets and the bridge were filled with people, now what?

It’s a bit quieter now, but I think there will definitely be more people gathering at night. Maybe there’s a lot more at work today and in the evening after work on the weekend, I’ll drive to our resort.

But is there no need for additional officer forces? For example, manage flows or mitigate conflicts when so many people come?

Palanga has really solved a lot of infrastructure problems. There are no more traffic jams in the city since last year, when we made a 4-lane entrance, when we built a new ring road that directs many millions of tourists to Šventoji or Latvia.

There are enough policemen, they do their usual work, they know all the critical points. There have been no incidents, as you mentioned, this year.

And the catering establishments? Do they manage to turn or are there places for people to eat?

I did not hear of anyone being hungry or outraged last weekend because there was no food in Palanga. Palanga has significantly improved the quality of its service in recent years.

Many chain restaurants travel to Palanga from Vilnius. Without a doubt, it is recognized that Palanga has changed completely, both in terms of audience, culture and food consumption.

There are enough restaurants not only on Basanavičiaus street, but also throughout the city. Even in Kunigiškės, Šventoji, many networks were opened.

And maybe on hot days you might need more help from doctors or rescuers?

Well, rescuers are always available, monitoring the situation 24 hours a day. There have been several such incidents, including the rescue of a 12-year-old boy who had suffered an illness at sea.

In addition, the teacher, who arrived in Palanga with 40 children and swam in the sea, also fell ill. Rescued by rescuers.

We really have a good rescue force that watches the most intense beaches, we have modern equipment, drones, water transport.

What advice would you give to the people who reach out to you today? What to look for

I advise you to forget that you have a car when you come to Palanga. You need to leave your accommodation. Don’t drive to the sea, walk.

Palanga is not big, the streets are neat, the infrastructure is new: take a bike and go to the beach.

Perhaps this season will be very profitable for the entrepreneurs of Palanga, because we have heard that the entrepreneurs are complaining?

I don’t think I’m complaining, especially last summer when there were a lot of people and the season was good.

And this season we should complain to Vilnius and Kaunas, because tourism there is really going through a very bad situation, because they lived off foreign tourists, and as you know, that flow of tourists to Lithuania during the pandemic has decreased.

In Palanga you cannot complain, the season is very good so far. I don’t remember there being that many people in Šventoji in June, because usually there were people after Saint John’s Day.
