M. Žaliūkas, who has been battling motor neuron disease for the past few years, was one of the most successful Lithuanian soccer players, having played for many elite clubs during his career.

“We are all shocked at Hearts Club to learn of the death of Marius Žaliūkas. We send love to Marius’s family and friends. It was our captain who won the Scottish Cup. We dedicate this victory to him, Captain,” Hearts’s account wrote.
The head coach of the Edinburgh team, Robbie Nelson, who played for the Lithuanian in 2007-2009, also expressed his condolences.
“Tonight, the Rangers Club is shocked and upset by the death of Marius Žaliūkas at the age of 36. At this difficult time, the thoughts of our managers and players are with Marius’ family,” wrote the Rangers team .

Probably the highest point of M. Žaliūkas’ career is the 2013-2014 season, which the athlete spent at the legendary club Leeds United. The team that has returned to the English Premier League this season are also in shock.

M. Žaliūkas, who defended the honor of the Lithuanian national team in 2006-2016, ended his career in 2016 in the Vilnius team “Žalgiris”, with which he became the Lithuanian champion.
