Kaunas “Žalgiris” is entering an extremely unusual Euroleague battle: due to the problems caused by the coronavirus, the Moscow region “Chimki” has to fight on Saturday.
“Žalgiris” arrived in Russia without Joffrey Lauvergne, to whom one of the coronavirus tests yielded a positive response. Meanwhile, up to five cases have been recorded in Chimki’s ranks, two of them, on the original match day Friday, due to additional testing and the match postponed.
Chimki did not have Janis Timma, Yevgeny Voronov and Jordan Mickey in the last United League game due to coronavirus, later he was diagnosed with Maxim Barashkov and Greg Monroe, and Errick McCollum remains in quarantine after arriving in Russia. Stefan Jovičius and Aleksejus Švedas continue to receive treatment for injuries, although the latter’s appearance on the pitch remains likely.
Kaunas residents will not only have J. Lauvergne, but also Patricis Garinas, who remains in Lithuania due to the problems on the roads.
