The first half was marked by a very tough fight, and the Lithuanian handball players were taken off the field 7 times in the first 30 minutes. After playing half of the first half, the score remained the same (5: 5), and for the remainder of the first half, the Lithuanian handballers managed to accumulate a brilliant one-goal lead: 11:10.
A decisive break came early in the second half and the Lithuanians managed to create a 5-goal lead (19:14). Although the opponents tried to get close several times, the Lithuanians kept the victorious lead and celebrated the victory – 31:28.
Following this victory, the Lithuanians scored the first 2 points in the European Championship qualifiers and climbed to third place in the group. Lithuania still have three games left in this team.
Valdas Drabavičius, who scored 6 goals, Skirmantas Plėta, who also scored 6 goals, Jonas Truchanovičius and Mindaugas Dumčius added 4, Gerdas Babarskas – 3, Benas Petreikis and Deividas Virbauskas – 2 each. Stankevičius, Žanas Gabrielius Virbauskas and Mindaugas Urbonas – 1 each.
Amielis Sidi stood out on the opposing team, scoring 11 goals, Daniel Shkalimas added 5 accurate shots.
The next match of the European Championship team will be played by the Lithuanians at home on April 29 with the Icelandic team.
