Mercedes-Benz, driving on the Vilnius-Klaipėda highway on Tuesday afternoon, is doing strange maneuvers.

Said notice at 4 pm 30 minutes. Kaunas Road police officers stopped this Mercedes-Benz in the Kaunas district near Grabiciškės. Supreme Court Judge A. Daugėla, who was sitting at his command, was found to be drunk at 1.84 per thousand.

Detention is not permitted by law.

The Supreme Court judge has legal immunity, so the patrols were unable to stop him.

His car was not taken to the parking lot stopped by the police, it was given to a sober person to drive it.

The driver faces criminal liability for such drunkenness. Pre-trial instruction in accordance with article 281-1 of the Penal Code. Attorney General Nida Grunskienė began on Tuesday, after receiving a relevant report. The Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office has been tasked with organizing the pre-trial investigation.

The Council of Judges decided on the same day that A. Daugėva’s powers would be suspended pending a decision on his removal.

Will offer dismissal

The Council of Judges immediately reported the incident to the Presidency. Under the law, the president makes a decree to ask the Council of Judges for advice on dismissal when demoting a judge.

On Wednesday, President Gitanas Nausėda promised to ask the Council of Judges for the removal of A. Daugėla in the near future. His presidency will also be suspended by presidential decree.

A.Daugėla has served on the Supreme Court since 2019.

He used to be a former Klaipėda police interrogator, in 1992 he became a judge at the Klaipėda City District Court, later at the Klaipėda Regional Court.

Since 1998, A.Daugėla has been the head of the Criminal Cases Division of the Klaipėda Regional Court, and in 2010 he became president of this court.

A. Daugėla herself repeatedly considered the behavior of other offending colleagues, as she was a member of the Judicial Ethics and Discipline Commission for eight years.

In Klaipeda – a surprise

“I don’t know what should have happened so incredibly for this person to have so much trouble,” said many Klaipėda residents who knew A. Daugėla well.

Women used to say that this is how every man should look: A. Daugėla always came to work with a stretched white shirt.

Nothing changed even when his wife went to work in Vilnius, and he lived in Klaipeda for some time and took care of his daughter and son, who are now 16 and 14 years old.

A few years ago, he told reporters that he liked to photograph and prepare dishes for breakfast or lunch; he grew tomatoes and spices for his own needs in the greenhouse.

Another of his passions was furniture restoration. In his house there were various pieces of furniture bought at a flea and renovated by himself.

“If I hadn’t become a judge in my life, I probably would have been a furniture restorer,” said A. Daugėla six years ago.

Colleagues commiserated

Only a drunk judge could save the job. The colleagues sympathized with the Vilnius District Court judge Mindaugas Striaukas.

In the spring of last year, the Board of Judges decided that 48-year-old drunk M. Striaukas could continue in office.

In seeking advice on the removal of M. Striaukas, President G. Nausėda addressed the Council of Judges on two occasions: shortly after the rape and later, when the circumstances of the incident were already clearer.

Offended only once

M.Striaukas got drunk at the wheel on the morning of May 19 last year, at approximately 7 hours 40 minutes.

According to the Vilnius police, the driver did not commit any offense, he was simply detained for inspection. It was found to have a potency of 0.61 per thousand.

The judge later pleaded completely guilty and claimed that he drank alcohol the day before.

A few months later, the Honor Court of Judges, which issued a severe reprimand to Mr. Striauk, assessed the fact that a colleague had once committed a misdemeanor and there was no information in the case about his alcohol abuse.

The daughter was guaranteed by the daughter.

In 2018, Gražina Kazilionienė, 57, a judge of the Panevėžys District Court who had intoxicated (1.85 per thousand alcohol) during All Souls’ Day, had to say goodbye to the mantle of judge, but avoided criminal prosecution .

The Šiauliai Regional Court acquitted former judge G. Kazilionienė of bail. He was entrusted with the responsibility of his daughter.

The court prohibited G. Kazilioniene from driving a car for a year and a half and confiscated 4,000. assets worth EUR.

Stuck twice

Even twice a month, the police were tried by Valerijus Paškevičius, a judge at the Vilnius District Court.

V.Paškevičius got stuck on the steering wheel for the first time in September 2016 on the outskirts of Vilnius, in Naujoji Vilnia. This time it was discovered that he was 1.86 percent drunk, he concealed from the police that he was a judge.

Although then-President Dalia Grybauskaitė petitioned the Council of Judges for her dismissal the following day, the Council postponed the decision. It could be considered as an impact on the judge hearing the administrative case for the violation committed by V. Paškevičius.

Only fired after the accident.

V. Paškevičius did not attend either the meeting of the Council of Judges or the court that was supposed to hear the case before him.

A month later, the Council of Judges had to consider the issue for the second time. On October 19, in Vilnius, at the intersection of Šilo and Viršupio streets, a car driven by V. Paškevičius collided with another car. The judge set it 1 per thousand.

V. Paškevičius, who was removed from his post, lost the right to drive a car for three years and had to pay a fine of 1158 euros.
