Vytautas Kernagis, a member of the conservative faction who resigned from the session before the end of the disputes, said it was not appropriate to transfer the management of the square to the LGGRTC by a law approved by the Seimas. According to the politician, LGGRTC, like the Vilnius city municipality, should first present a plan of measures and a vision of how this square will be further managed.

“Just as the municipality is now preparing its vision for 4 months, the Genocide Center could also be prepared. So, four months from now, let’s get back to this topic, let’s consider one vision, let’s consider another. Let’s listen to public opinion and then make decisions, and don’t hand it over to the Genocide Center, saying that it can be fixed, “said V. Kernagis and asked LGGRTC head Adas Jakubauskas, who participated in the meeting, if the center has sufficient resources to seize Lukiškės Square.

“Do you have the resources to take care of this plaza in general?” Kernagis asked.

According to A. Jakubauskas, after taking over the management of the square, the center would also have state assignments. At the same time, A. Jakubauskas pointed out that the center under his leadership has already begun to prepare a vision of how the square would be managed if it were to be under the control of the center.

“If there was a decision by the Seimas that the Center became the administrator of the square, without a doubt, we (Lukiškės Square – ELTA) would comply with the provision of the law. We have just started preparing a vision to overcome Lukiškės square. If the Seimas approves us as governor, we will be ready to present it to the public, ”he said.

At the same time, the director of LGGRTC hinted that it would be logical to cede the square near Lukiškės square to the center.

“If the Seimas decides to entrust the management of Lukiškės Square to the Genocide Center, then, in my opinion, it would also be necessary for the Center to oversee the Victims’ Square, which is next to the former KGB palace. This square does not it is very well maintained ”, added A. Jakubauskas.

For his part, Ramūnas Karbauskis, leader of the “peasants”, in response to the statements of V. Kernagis, added that the funds necessary for the management of Lukiškės square were allocated in any case and will be allocated by the Government.

“Vytautas, if you are not interested in the situation, the money that was allocated for the management of this square is assigned by the Government and will be assigned by the Government: if it will go to the Genocide and Resistance Center or to the Vilnius City Hall. and the city will not receive money for it ”, said R. Karbauskis.

A little later, R. Karbauskis also commented on V. Kernagis’s hint that perhaps the public should be asked who should manage Lukiškės square.

“If we do a survey on who should run the square, we will be even more confronted with the public, but we will not achieve the result, because politics will work again. The Seimas is the institution that makes the decision by majority vote on behalf of the nation ”, said R. Karbauskis.

The Minister of Culture asks that the agreement reached with the Vilnius authorities be used

Despite R. Karbauskis’ determination to transfer the management of Lukiškės square to LGGRTC, the Minister of Culture Mindaugas Kvietkauskas, who participated in the meeting, emphasized that all possibilities to solve this problem should be considered. The minister recalled that last week the working group headed by him managed to reach a compromise with the Vilnius city municipality regarding the management of Lukiškės square.

“I want to emphasize that under the current regulations we have managed to reach a compromise with the municipality and, in my opinion, that possibility should also be considered and used – to consider all the alternatives,” said M. Kvietkauskas.

ELTA recalls that at the meeting of the working group on the Lukiškės square loan contract held in the Government last week, the Minister of Culture M. Kvietkauskas stated that the square of the capital remains at least for the moment for the Vilnius city municipality. According to the minister who leads the task force, the capital promised to present a plan of measures within 4 months on how to implement the so-called Lukiškės Square Law adopted by the Seimas in the summer. In the same week, the Vilnius City Municipality signed a loan contract for Lukiškės Square with the National Land Service (NŽT).

August 1 After the entry into force of the Law on Lukiškės Square, it was established that the Vytis monument representing the symbol of the state, together with the monument to the victims of Lithuanian Freedom, will have to be the main accent of the square From the capital.

R. Karbauskis, the leader of the Peasants, has previously said that this outgoing Seimas will adopt amendments to the Law on the memorial status of Lukiškės Square in Vilnius, which will ensure the transfer of Lukiškės Square to the LGGRTC. September 24 After the presentation, MPs “blessed” the amendments to the Law on the memorial status of Lukiškės Square in Vilnius, which provides for the transfer of Lukiškės Square to LGGRTC.
