According to her, a feasibility study is underway on this issue, and such a fence could cost around 15 million. euros.

“We are really considering and doing a feasibility study on the emergence of the physical frontier. And, apparently, the price would be around 15 million, “said the Interior Minister on Wednesday on the LRT television program” Dienos Tema. “

Its spokeswoman Lina Laurinaitytė-Grigienė told BNS that several options are being considered during the study: the fence could be single or double, be surrounded by wire or even have an alarm system.

Lithuania has a 678.8 kilometer border with Belarus. According to A.Bilotaitė, the fence could not be installed along the entire border section due to natural conditions.

The minister’s adviser said that a protective fence was currently installed on the 78-kilometer border with Belarus.

The section of about 92.5 km consists of several bodies of water, where it is not possible to install protection fences, so the fence could appear in another section of 508 kilometers.

15 million The amount of 1 thousand euros for the works is calculated by estimating that the cost of installing one kilometer of protective fence is about 30 thousand euros.

“Considering the extremely significant increase in material prices, the price of a protective fence would be even higher at this time,” said L. Laurinaitytė-Grigienė.

“In addition, the surveillance elements of the wall (cameras, sensors, etc.) must be integrated in addition to the fence. The cost per kilometer of this integrated border surveillance system is approximately 130 thousand. euro ”, he added.

According to officials, nearly 400 migrants from Belarus have tried to enter Lithuania illegally this year, many of them Iraqi nationals.

This amount is five times higher than in the entire 2020s.
